The Waning Moon greatly influences our energy—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Its power is evident in the movement of tides, women’s cycles, and the harvest. Like nature, the Moon operates in cycles: it begins with the New Moon, grows through the Waxing Moon, and concludes with the Waning phase. These cycles remind us that nothing lasts forever and nothing blooms endlessly. Understanding these rhythms is akin to embracing the wisdom of creation itself, helping us find a better balance in our own lives.
Ward Off Bad Energy with the July Waning Moon
The waning phase invites us to reflect on past cycles. As the final stage before the New Moon, it impacts not only the physical but also the emotional and spiritual realms. It brings a powerful vibration of release and inner transformation, paving the way for new beginnings.

Its dimming light in the sky and darker nights signal the ideal moment for introspection. In magical and spiritual traditions, this phase helps cleanse negative energies and cut ties with harmful patterns. It’s a time to prepare for renewal by letting go of negative thoughts, breaking bad habits, and severing toxic connections.
Though some might mistakenly see this phase as negative, its true power lies in transformation and necessary endings. One powerful way to align with this energy is through rituals, prayers, and cleansing baths. Here are a few practices to help you absorb the best vibrations of this lunar phase:
Emotional Liberation Bath – For Traumas and Negative Memories
On a Waning Moon night, light a peanut candle and ask the Waning Moon for protection. Boil 2 liters of water, and once boiling, add a handful of rosemary, boldo (also known as bachelor’s button), plantain leaves, and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar. Turn off the heat and cover the pot for 30 minutes. Then strain and discard the herbs in a garden or flower pot.
After your regular shower, pour the bath water from head to toe while asking the Waning Moon to help release emotional blockages. Dress in light-colored clothes, express your gratitude, and let the candle burn completely.
Protection Fumigation – For Cleansing and Protecting the Home
In a bowl or pot, place a lit charcoal or a cotton ball on fire. Add powdered eucalyptus, rue, and mastic tree over the flame.
To banish bad energy, start fumigating from the back of the house toward the front door.
To invite protection, start from the front door and move toward the back.
Recite a prayer as you go, asking the Waning Moon to bless your space. Make sure to pass through every corner of your home. Once done, take a herbal bath to purify your own energy.
Note: Always light a peanut candle before starting and ask for spiritual protection to keep you safe throughout the process.
Prayer to the Waning Moon – To Banish Negative Thoughts
(Light a white peanut candle and place a glass of water beside it. Then say the following prayer.)
On this magical night, I open my heart to welcome you.
You, dark and mysterious night, cleanse my mind and soul.
May your silver light bless my path and understanding,
So I may free myself from the chains that bind my life.
Moon, beautiful and wise, maiden and mother, bless my being.
With a cleansed mind and divine light, guide my way forward.
On this night, I thank you, waning mother—
May you always be by my side, flooding me with positive energy.
So it is, and so it shall be!

Purification Candle – To Ward Off Envy and the Evil Eye
Using a lilac peanut candle, carve your name from the wick downward with a knife. Rub the candle with olive oil from the wick downward, coating it well.
On a white plate, mix fine salt, charcoal powder, and dried rue. Roll the oiled candle in this mixture until it’s fully covered.
After taking a relaxing herbal bath and playing soothing music, place the candle on a saucer and light it. Pray to the Waning Moon for transmutation, purification, and the removal of negative energies from your life.
Important: Perform this ritual only when you can stay with the candle until it burns out completely. Dispose of the remains in the trash afterward.
