Understanding the Power of Mirrors

Used since ancient times as portals, oracles, and magical tools, mirrors reveal secrets of the unconscious and the spiritual world.

The earliest mirrors were the lakes of ancient Greece. On calm days, when the waters were still, it was possible to see a surprisingly detailed reflection. The ancient Celts, for example, carefully observed the reflection of their eyes on the lake’s surface. Many spiritual philosophies believe the eyes are the manifestation of the soul, so they thought that through them, one could access the mysteries of the unconscious and gain valuable revelations about the past, present, and even the future.

Carl Jung and the Revelation of the Unconscious

Carl Jung, the renowned psychoanalyst and student of the human mind, revealed that the unconscious holds all the traits of our personality. This means it contains awareness of our flaws and virtues and offers clues about everything that might happen in our future—precisely because it knows how we are likely to react to life’s situations.

The Evolution of Physical Mirrors

In an effort to capture this reflective phenomenon, stones and metals were polished until they eventually became glass. Coated on one side with a thin layer of silver, glass became a perfectly reflective surface—like a crystal-clear lake, “frozen,” ready to be used at any moment.

Initially, mirrors were made from metals such as gold, silver, and copper, always striving for a clear, reflective surface. In other cultures, obsidian—a volcanic stone that projects a dark, shadowy image—was also used. But that’s a story for another article.

The Mirror as a Magical Instrument

Back then, mirrors were exclusively handheld and considered personal, almost sacred objects. From this, we understand a profound truth: you can only see your own future through the reflective surface of a mirror.

It reflects only the person who looks into it, so visions and prophecies belong solely to the user. “Mirror, mirror on the wall, is there anyone more beautiful than I?” We all remember that legendary line from Snow White. This magical scene isn’t so far removed from the reality of mirror magic.

For millennia, witches and magicians worldwide have used mirrors as portals to other dimensions. They perform magic, cast spells, and use mirrors as oracles and gateways to spiritual beings that inhabit other planes.

Portals and Oracles

Many ask: who answers the questions posed before a magic mirror? There are two possibilities. The first is the manifestation of your own subconscious, which may appear in various forms—a man, woman, child, or elder—depending on how your subconscious chooses to reveal itself.

The second possibility is the invocation of a guardian spirit—a magical entity residing in one of the many spiritual worlds, which then inhabits your mirror as a protector and guide. In both cases, these spirits can only be invoked through a ritual of consecration, performed with awareness and responsibility.

Rituals and Care for Magical Mirrors

When the mirror is properly magnetized with sacred herbs and consecrated, we can communicate with magical beings, as it acts as a reflection of our inner self. Through it, we access vibrations, energies, and spirits that resonate with our faith and devotion. This is why conscious and respectful use of the mirror is essential in our magical practice.

As it functions as a portal, it’s necessary to protect ourselves from negative influences and obsessive entities. Before any ritual—whether for invocation or visualization—the mirror must be consecrated, magnetized, and a protective magic circle should be established.
